Accumen, Bon Secours Mercy Health, and Advantus Health Partners Discuss Health System COVID-19 Financial Recovery Strategies

May 26, 2021

PHOENIX, AZ – MAY 26, 2021 – Accumen announced today that it will be leading a panel discussion entitled “Health System Financial Recovery and Margin Improvement: The Strategic Importance of Supply Chain and Utilization Management,” together with experts from Bon Secours Mercy Health and Advantus Health Partners. This session will be held at 10:45 a.m. CST on Thursday, May 27 during Becker’s Hospital Review’s Virtual Annual Meeting.

Panelists will describe proven strategies that can help health systems and hospitals to drive down costs and increase efficiency, while also improving patient care. They will focus on lab supply chain, lab stewardship, and patient blood management strategies.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has stress-tested all aspects of the healthcare industry. Health systems are under increasing pressure to reduce expenses, while simultaneously facing supply shortages and price increases. Under these trying conditions, supply chain management and blood product utilization are proving to be important areas of expertise, which help to ensure health system financial recovery. We welcome this opportunity to highlight some of the strategies that we have effectively employed at health systems throughout the country, including our partnership with Bon Secours Mercy Health,” said Brent Bolton, Vice President/General Manager of Supply Chain at Accumen.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the strategic importance of strong lab supply chain management for health systems of all sizes. At Bon Secours Mercy Health, we responded quickly by redefining our clinical engagement model, especially with respect to personal protective equipment, creating an accountability model, and applying a lot of change management. We have been studying utilization and performance and taking a hard look at how and when we acquire goods and services. Looking ahead, we plan to create a proactive supply chain model that will ensure we are optimally prepared to deal with any future crises,” said Dan Hurry, President of Advantus Health Partners and Chief Supply Chain Officer at Bon Secours Mercy Health, an Advantus Health Partner.

Brent Bolton will moderate this financial recovery discussion. He will be joined by Dan Hurry; Autumn Farmer, Chief Laboratory Officer at Bon Secours Mercy Health; Jeremy Wilneff, Supply Chain Director at Accumen; and Joseph Thomas, Vice President/General Manager of Clinical Optimization at Accumen.
